Abstract

The Textile industry has become the backbone of the economy of Bangladesh. About three million people are involved with garment and textile industries. Sustainability in textile industry has become an extensively debated issue due to the nature of the industry. Textiles are considered globally as one of the most hazardous both to environment and society if not operated in a controlled way. The textile industry has been one of the main contributors to water pollution all over the world, causing more than 20% of the registered levels of water pollution in countries. It is essential to promote sustainability in this large industrial sector. When the world garment market and companies are focusing on environment friendly products, the Bangladeshi garment and textile industries are far beyond of it and it poses a risk of losing the world market. It is high time to adopt special strategies and an approach towards sustainability. This paper emphasis to make the life cycle approach of manufactured products for environmental indicators to achieve sustainability. Sustainable practices in textile industry include using fewer amounts of water, hazardous chemicals, pesticides; adopting eco-friendly production processes; using less energy for production processes.

Conclusions

Because of the progressively growing fees of energy, business contamination, deficiencies of strategic raw substances and natural sources, and ecological screw ups, sustainability has grown to be most taking problems these days. So, the awareness and movement for saving the environment and decreasing pollutions is growing anywhere over the world. Being one of the most polluting parties, the enterprise firms or industries are also being introduced to the point of saving environment from pollutions. The ready-made clothes are one of the key industries of Bangladesh. That is the largest and maximum effective enterprise which includes a huge quantity of corporations, personnel and capital. As environmental issues are very important nowadays, making the RMG industry problem approximately sustainable manufacturing practices where companies produce their product that limit poor environmental impacts, preserve strength and natural resources, are safe for personnel, groups, and customers. The finding of the studies is divided into two parts: focus on sustainable manufacturing and common sustainable practices of ready-made clothes industry in which the commonplace practices is shown on waste management practices, sustainable production technique and sustainable materials procurements practices the various geared up-garments producers. As the garment industry is one of the major key elements of the economic growth of the country, the workers' rights and standard wage levels should be revised and reconsidered. No workers should suffer from their poor working environments. The government along with factory owners should confirm the workers personal benefit, health and safety issues. The government, private organizations and the factory owners have yet to take responsible initiatives and to work for the better working environment in order to enrich a satisfactory position in terms of sustainability.
